Nord Pool ASA operates the world’s largest power derivatives exchange and among Europe’s largest carbon exchanges for trade in EUAs and CERs. The company has more than 400 members from over 20 countries across a wide range of energy producers and consumers, as well as financial institutions. In 2008, Nord Pool has expanded into Europe and a new entity was founded, NASDAQ OMX Commodities, based on the acquisition of Nord Pool’s energy and carbon derivatives products by NASDAQ OMX. The company is the world’s largest exchange and has a reach over six continents, totalling 3,900 listed companies in 39 countries. The core business of Nord Pool ASA and NASDAQ OMX Commodities will be trading and clearing financial-settled power contracts in the Nordic- German- and Dutch region. The total volume for 2007 was 2,369.2 TWh worth 81.6 billion. In 2008, the exchange has increased the traded and cleared volumes by over 15% YTD compared to 2007.
